What inspired you to become an accountant?
I have always had an interest in business and tax and I enjoy helping people and giving advice. So becoming an accountant felt like the right choice for me.
How did you begin to work at Morrows?
I completed my Bachelor of Business majoring in Accounting at Victoria University. During my studies I was given an opportunity to complete a one year co-operative work experience program with an accounting firm, found Morrows and was interviewed by Graeme Marks and Greg Levvey (both of whom later became my mentors) who, fortunately, took me on. Whilst in my co-op role, I applied the technical knowledge gained in University in a practical sense within my chosen profession. I continued to work part time at Morrows in 2007 whilst completing my degree and then began working full time at Morrows in 2008.
What do you consider to be your strengths in your role at Morrows?
This role involves planning well, maintaining high communication levels and the ability to develop interpersonal relationships with clients and team members. I especially enjoy working with my team and contributing to their professional development. I like to share tools and tips and pass on my knowledge gained from experience working at Morrows.
Having worked at Morrows for more than 8 years, what do you consider to be your greatest contribution?
During my CPA Program, I was mentored by Archie Lygris and Graeme Marks who assisted me in by passing on their skills and knowledge. In my time at Morrows, I have been lucky to gain exposure to various types of tax and consulting work and have now been given the opportunity to manage a team of three. I now get to pass on the tools, knowledge and skills I have gained to allow them to grow and prosper in their careers, just like I have.
My definition of prosperity and success within my career is based on my personal ability to pass on my knowledge and tools to my team members whilst being open to further development and growth; this is all at the same time as enjoying work every step along the way.
What is your favourite travel destination?
In September 2013, my partner and I travelled to Italy. It was here I got to experience the culture, learn more of the language, history and, of course, taste the wonderful food. The highlight of the trip was meeting my extended family in Sicily.
You have an upcoming role as a first time mum. Are you excited?
I am very excited and looking forward to the next chapter in my life. I understand that motherhood will be challenging and also very rewarding. I have a strong support network at home and everyone is very excited for the upcoming addition to our family. I cannot wait to meet the baby.
How do you feel about your career and family? Do you feel that Morrows supports you?
Throughout my eight years with Morrows, the team has been supportive. I look forward to helping Morrows promote a work-life balance with the commencement of my new family.
One last thing:
“Life is too short to sweat the small stuff, absorb each special moment and don’t forget to laugh!”
Note: Lisa-Marie will be on maternity leave from Friday 17th October until advised.
