Morrows congratulates Laura McKenzie, CEO, Scale Investors, on achieving Finalist in the Telstra Business Women’s Awards for 2014.

With 15 years’ experience in corporate finance, microfinance and venture capital across three continents, Laura McKenzie now works to improve the historically low percentage of female investors in Australia. As the inaugural CEO of female-focused angel investor network Scale, she’s focused on driving investment in female-led companies. Laura says women were estimated to represent less than two per cent of Australia’s 500 ‘angel investors’ in 2012. Couple that with challenges for women in accessing capital and Laura believes Scale is a critical part of the solution to address this imbalance.

Scale is the only organisation focused on training and servicing women as investors, on investing in female-led businesses and providing a complete service of education, deal flow sourcing, pipeline management, due diligence support, transaction negotiation and portfolio support. Since July 2013, Scale has recruited 55 angels, received applications from 100 entrepreneurs, and invested almost $2m in 4 female led companies.
